Board Certification

THE AMERICAN BOARD OF REGENERATIVE MEDICINE (ABRM)

The American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM) represents the certification authority of the evolving specialty of Regenerative Medicine. In conjunction with the AARM, ABRM strives to develop Graduate Medical Education programs and set education and certification standards. As such, ABRM is not affiliated or a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

The American Board of Regenerative Medicine (ABRM) Board Certification program is designed to evaluate knowledge competency in the field of Regenerative Medicine with the goal of improved patient care. Successful candidates will be granted Diplomat status with the American Board of Regenerative Medicine (DABRM). The ABRM Board Certification process establishes didactic basic and clinical science competency in the field of Regenerative Medicine. ABRM does not evaluate clinical competency or define a physician’s scope of practice within the specialty of Regenerative Medicine.

All ABRM board-certified physicians must comply with the ASRM Code of Ethics in Regenerative Medicine to maintain certification. As of the 2018 examination cycle, ABRM board certification is time-limited to 5 years. Recertification requires successful completion of the ABRM written recertification examination.

ABRM is currently only offering board certification for physicians practicing Musculoskeletal or Plastic/Cosmetic Regenerative Medicine in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines (FDA).

As of the July 2022 ABRM examination cycle, a requirement for oral board examination will be added to the ABRM written examination requirement for U.S. physicians.
